Monthly Prompts - 2020-2021

   PROMPTS FOR JUNE 20/21

​

    1. “In June, we celebrate National Indigenous History Month to honour the history, heritage and diversity of Indigenous peoples in Canada” (Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada), and June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day. We welcome creations that highlight and celebrate Indigenous history and culture. 

       2. June is also Pride Month in Canada! We encourage creations that highlight and celebrate 2SLGBTQ+ pride.

       3. June 5th is World Environment Day. We encourage creations related to this topic. 

       4. It’s the last issue of the school year! Reflect on this unique school year as a whole.

 

PROMPTS FOR MAY 20/21

​

  1. May is Asian Heritage Month. We invite Asian students and/or students of Asian descent to share creations related to this topic. 

  2. May 3rd-9th is Mental Health Week in Canada. We encourage all creations related to this topic. For example, how can our school community or society as a whole better support mental health? 

  3. Eid al-Fitr begins May 12th. We invite Muslim students to write a reflection on their Ramadan, or what they would like the school community to know about these holidays and/or Islam (as well as any other creations related to this topic). 

  4. May is Jewish Heritage Month. We invite Jewish students to share creations related to this topic. For example, what does being Jewish mean to you? 

  5. Make a list. Your dream travel destinations? Top 10 musicals? Get creative!

 

 

 

PROMPTS FOR APRIL 20/21

​

  1. April is National Poetry Month! Share some poetry with us :) The league of Canadian Poets is inviting us to celebrate the month with the theme of resilience. 

  2. Spring break is April 12th to 16th! Have a recommendation for a TV show, book, recipe, or anything else you’re doing over the break? Share it with Knightwatch!

  3. April is also Autism Acceptance Month. We invite autistic Nepean students to share creations related to this topic. 

  4. There are lots of holidays being celebrated this spring. If you’re celebrating, share some of your traditions, whether your holiday(s) is/are past or upcoming.

PROMPTS FOR MARCH 20/21

  1. International Women's Day content 

  2. We’re coming up on the anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic. How does that feel? - Maybe write a letter to yourself last March

  3.  An unlikely pair of characters end up on a road trip together. 


 

PROMPTS FOR FEBRUARY 20/21

 

For the February issue of Knightwatch, we will be focusing on and highlighting creations related to Black History Month, in order to center important stories and perspectives, and to give a bigger platform to, and stand in solidarity with, Black students at NHS. 

 

We encourage you to make creations (whether art or writing) that can center around Black History Month! If you create anything that you aren’t sure about or want some suggestions with, we are happy to provide guidance- just email anytime!

  1. Write about an influential Black Canadian

  2. What does Black History Month mean to you?

  3. Do you think enough is done for Black History Month? Write an opinion piece.

  4. Review a book written by a Black author

PROMPTS FOR JANUARY 20/21

 

  1. New Year’s reflection: Reflect on 2020 as a whole. How are you a different person 

going into 2021 than you were last New Year’s? 

   2. Get creative over the break: Listen to a song you like and design a character, write something, draw something, write your own song, etc. inspired by the song. 

   3. Review your favourites: Are you a fan of a podcast, book, TV show, etc. that everyone needs to know about (or that you just really want to talk about)? Write up a review and send it to Knightwatch! 

 

 

PROMPTS FOR DECEMBER 20/21

 

  • Reflect on your first quadmester and how it feels to move on to new courses so quickly. 

  • How does the holiday season make you feel?

  • Send in some holiday baking recipes!

  • What are your favourite COVID-safe December holiday traditions and activities?
